In Her Studio: A Creative Journey with Juliana Yasmine | Mindful Jewelry & Art

Juliana Yasmine in her studio, designing handcrafted jewelry.

Stepping In Her Studio, my creative space, is like walking into a world of intention, artistry, and mindfulness. While for the moment my studio is spread out through my little apartment, its no unfamiliar feeling of having to work with the space that I have - making it more than just where I work—but a place where my ideas take shape, and creativity transports me into another world where time stands still.  Each piece I craft tells a story of empowerment or introspective growth as a reminder of the strength we have within to grow through our pain and sadness to find the light and seek joy in our every day rituals.

Whether you're an artist, a dreamer, or someone who loves handcrafted jewelry and design, I invite you to take a behind-the-scenes look at my studio life. 🌿

In Her Studio: Behind the Scenes of My Creative Process

My studio is a reflection of my journey —a space filled with natural light, and tools to get underway with creating. From the moment I light a candle or some incense to start the day to the final touch on a handcrafted piece, everything in my studio is intentional.  As a mom I feel pulled in many different directions, laundry, creativity, walk the dog, do the dishes, manage my business...I could go on, it's overwhelming to think about sometimes - I dont even know how people do it with multiple little ones.  That being said scent is a powerful part of a grounding ritual for my mood and energy to be settled before diving into crafting.  While I am not a minimalist by any means, the trinkets that surround me inspire my creative output and bring me joy.  I love bringing nature inside and being surrounded by plants and the organic lines of what Mother Nature creates through gemstones, vines, feathers, leaves - all things that I collect on my walks in the wilderness.

What Inspired You to Create Your Studio Space?

I’ve always believed that creativity flourishes in spaces that truly reflect who we are. My studio is my sanctuary, blending function and beauty. It’s designed for jewelry-making, sketching, and curating collections, but also serves as a space to slow down and reconnect with my craft.

Everything "In Her Studio" has been chosen with purpose especially having come from living in a school bus for 4 years where my jewelers bench was a small 2.5'x2.5' space—I learnt early on that each tool, material, and piece of décor that I bring into the space must have purpose without taking up more space than necessary.

What Does a Day in Your Studio Look Like?

"Every day is different"

No two days are the same "In Her Studio", but rituals keep me grounded. Mornings often start with a glass of room temperature water, with a splash of lemon, and some tinctures, and I take a few quiet moments to set intentions, breathe before whipping up a coffee for the day.  As a mom my duties there come first and I get my daughter off to school, walk the dog and come home to settle back into a work flow.

I often tune into my favorite music to escape into my world of creativity. Then, I dive into designing—sketching ideas, working with materials, or photographing new pieces.

Then theres the busy business girl boss kind of days of running a small business where marketing and listing new products online, customer service and emails, along with applying to events and getting the word out about my brand are also a part of my work flow.

Some days I naturally as a women feel more emotional and need a moment of reflection, introspection and emotional grounding otherwise the joy of what I do can definitely be turned into "work" and get the best of me.  These are the days I turn to mood boards, a cup of tea and some journaling. These practices help me stay inspired and connected to my artistic process while keeping creativity fresh.  Sometimes we just need a moment to reset and remember why we do what we do - once I feel grounded I can create again.

How Do You Stay Inspired While Creating?

I find inspiration in nature, vintage design, and global artistry. The rich textures of tree bark, the curves of ocean waves, and the intricate details of historical jewelry all influence my work.  Other creators and what they create allow me to understand and see what is possible and be inspired to recreate my version of a concept is always something that resonates...theres no new ideas just new ideas, just a kaleidoscope of variations.

I love going to the library to collect new books that share inspiring images, stories and color palettes.  Hikes and outdoor adventures with a note pad where I can have a moment on my own free of responsibilities (thats key, especially as a mom/wife etc) to sit in peace and really allow my mind to explore my surroundings without interruptions.

Mindful practices also play a role—whether it’s journaling, vision boarding, meditating, drinking tea, breath work practice or simply taking a mindful moment before starting a new design, these rituals allow me to create with intention.

I also think that it is so important as a creative to explore free of judgement, finding new materials or techniques and to simply play allowing for the freedom of a flow state to emerge from within.  A release of emotion and subconscious creativity can be outwardly expressed and expose a vision, thought or creative output that you didn't realize was already within you.

It's Never to late to start or start over...dont give up on your dreams

I closed my business back in 2020 after having my best year of sales in 9 years.  I sometimes look back on that time and realize that I just needed to step back and look at the business differently, figure out how to fix the problems I was having of growing pains and struggling to break through.

In recent years I was constantly called back to my desire to create, I would see shapes, designs and color in products and creations that I wanted to make and share.  My mind is naturally chasing new ideas and craves creating.

So I started things back up again and have been constantly thinking back to the problems I had and brainstorming ways to work around them.  It's never too late to start something new or redo something that didn't quite work out, failure brings learning lessons and opportunity for growth.  Listen to what has been calling you from the depths of your soul and honor your deepest desires - Thats where you will constantly find inspiration and motivation to create.

Describe Your Creative Process...

Every piece I design begins with a vision. I start with the emotion or story I want to convey, then let the materials guide me.  Normally I am looking to what I need in life at the moment or what emotional struggle I have been facing.  My work generally reflects the darkness within that I am looking to overcome and what I need to embrace that strength, light and positivity.

Whether I’m working on a new collection or a custom order, I love blending raw, organic elements with refined craftsmanship.  Contrasting metals, unique colors and designs that represent the feeling of emerging from that darkness and fully embodying that uplifting purpose that the art holds.

My goal is always to create wearable art and jewelry that resonates —pieces that empower the wearer and carry a sense of artistry and meaning.

What Role Does Mindfulness Play in Your Work?

Mindfulness is at the core of everything I create, from fashion design and styling to jewelry-making and self care offerings. It allows me to be present and intentional in my creative process making sure it aligns with deeper a meaning and represents authenticity from my journey to yours in a way that my customer can relate.

Being mindful helps me tap into my intuition, whether I’m designing jewelry, or creating textile patterns. By staying present in the moment, I allow inspiration to flow naturally from my surroundings—nature, architecture, and personal experiences.

Mindfulness also plays a role in my approach to sustainability and conscious creation. I prioritize ethical materials, slow fashion, and the energetic intention behind each piece I make. Whether it’s a handmade piece of jewelry, using recycled metals or an herbal perfume to calm, energize or empower, I want my work to offer more than just a product—I want it to provide an experience, a moment of reflection, and a connection to something greater.

As an entrepreneur, mindfulness allows me to navigate the ups and downs of business with a balanced mindset. By staying present with my business goals and creative evolution, I avoid burnout and remain aligned with my purpose. I structure my work in a way that feels intentional, designing slow collections that dont follow trends and fast fashion and marketing campaigns that encourage self-reflection, such as self-love, renewal, and transformation.  I want my work to resonate on a deeper level—to evoke emotion, to inspire, and to create a lasting impression.

For me, creativity isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about energy, presence, and meaning. Everything I create is done with intention, from the designs I make to the experiences I offer. Mindfulness allows me to infuse my work with authenticity, making every piece, service, and project a reflection of my passion and purpose.

What’s Your Favorite Part of Studio Life?

The best part of being "In Her Studio" is the sense of endless possibility. This is where ideas transform into tangible creations. From the initial sketch to the finished piece, every step of the process is infused with love, care, and artistry. In this space, time floats away, and I become fully immersed in the process. There are no distractions, no expectations—just the pure joy of making. It’s in these moments that I feel most connected to my artistry, most in tune with my vision, and most at home within myself. The studio is my sanctuary, my playground, and my happy place—a space where creativity flows freely, and every idea has the potential to become something extraordinary.

That being said theres also the flip side of that and sitting at a computer where I face challenges that can sometimes feel less rewarding. Developing marketing stategies to increase sales can be uncomfortable, but is a part of the business needs in order to generate a living. Sending emails, staring at a screen, making updates to the website. Theres many things that require a different kind of creative mindset - the digital side. It's not my favorite side of the business but comes with new knowledge and opportunity for collaboration which I do appreciate!

Embracing the Art of Slow Creation

Being In Her Studio is more than just a workspace—it’s a sacred ritual, a place where imagination breathes and ideas take form. Every brushstroke, every thread, every carefully shaped piece of jewelry carries the energy of intention and artistry. Here, creativity isn’t rushed; it unfolds naturally, at its own pace, much like nature itself.

As I step back and admire the work in progress, I’m reminded that the beauty of creation isn’t just in the final piece—it’s in the process, the quiet moments of inspiration, and the joy of making something with my own hands. Whether it’s crafting a new collection, styling a vision, or blending elements of my art and design background into something fresh, In Her Studio is where it all begins.

And that’s the magic of it. Endless possibility, boundless creativity, and the freedom to explore. Thank you for stepping into my world—where every piece tells a story, and every creation holds a piece of my heart.
